Despite having nothing to do with the arts, many jobs require a lot of creative thinking. But with time ticking deadline coming up, how do you come up with something creative and fresh?

Creative thinking means looking at something from a fresh perspective. It can be stimulated by an unstructured process such as brainstorming, or by a structured process such as lateral thinking. Some people are naturally more creative than others, but creative thinking can be strengthened with practice. But when you’re under the pressure of a deadline, it can be quite tricky to come up with fresh ideas right away. Here are the 3 ways to trigger creative ideas:

  1. Go to new places

Don’t just sit in your office all day! Get out, take a walk, drive around, and find new places to brainstorm your ideas. Go to places that make you calm, find new inspirations. While doing so, be more sensitive to your surroundings and observe everything. You’ll be surprised by just how quickly you can generate ideas from the things and people you see happening on the streets, or just random things happening right in front of your eyes.

  1. Talk to people and listen to them!

Even a great thinker needs people around her or him to discuss new creative ideas and innovations. The most important thing is to always listen to people. By listening, we can learn new things from other people’s experiences and stories. We can learn from a different perspective and it might be able to spark new ideas for us.

So always try to keep an open mind because it reflects how much you are motivated to consider new ideas, concepts, and experiences. Be a valuable team player who always listens and appreciate other people’s ideas, because the most creative people are typically very open people. Moreover, try talking to random strangers. You’ll gain a lot from people with completely different perspective.

  1. Keep asking questions

Don’t ever limit your curiosity. Question everything and practice your research skills. If you’re curious, ask. Seek answers from experts, or the easiest way is just to Google! But remember to always be skeptical when you receive new information. Double check the sources and make sure it’s credible.
