Jakarta, September 4, 2013 – Schindler, the leading global provider of mobility solutions, today unveiled in Jakarta its next-generation elevator, the Schindler 5500. Combining state-of-the-art engineering and top tier performance levels, a single modular system adaptable to a wide variety of applications, energy efficient technologies and materials as well as a lavish range of interior decoration lines and features, the Schindler 5500 is positioned to address the most sophisticated needs of the Indonesian building industry.
Engineered at Schindler’s global research and development center in Switzerland, the Schindler 5500 sets new industry precedents in terms of speed and efficiency, including a machine room-less (MRL) version that can travel up to 50 stories in 50 seconds.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Schindler 5500 elevator here in Indonesia. This revolutionary product will be very appealing in the dynamic and fast growing construction industry,” said Hendrikus Hendra Gozali, President Director, PT Berca Schindler Lifts. It is the fastest MRL elevator in the industry to bring you to a height of 150 meters or 50 stories. It can be configured to maximize shaft space utilization and rentable floor areas, is energy smart, and best in class in terms of user comfort and safety.
Ultimate performance
Thanks to a system architecture based on Schindler’s cutting-edge Suspension Traction Media (STM) technology, which allows for a smaller, energy efficient motor, less valuable building space is required, while passengers are provided with an exceptionally fast and pleasant ride experience.
“The Schindler 5500 combines all latest technological advances in speed, capacity and comfort that clearly meet the requirements of today’s modern cities,” said Sebastianus Obbie Kristanto, Director of New Installation, PT Berca Schindler Lifts.
Green mobility
The Schindler 5500 is designed to support the overall energy efficiency of the building. The clean Power Factor One (PF1) regenerative drive technology enables power generated by the elevator to be fed back into the building’s electricity grid, consuming up to 30% less energy than comparable elevators.
With its enhanced standby mode, use of durable and efficient LED lighting, carefully selected environmentally friendly materials, a light weight gearless motor with no oil or lubricant needed, the Schindler 5500 has achieved a class A energy rating, the highest rating under VDI 4707, an elevator energy efficiency classification guideline established by the Association of German Engineers.
Space configurability
Among the Schindler 5500’s most outstanding features is its singular modular system and scalable car sizes, allowing the elevator to be easily customized to fit into various shaft dimensions. The flexible car dimensions and door options can cover various applications from apartments and offices, to hotels, hospitals and shopping centers, as well as stations, airports and stadiums.
The Schindler 5500 boasts the best shaft space utilization in the industry with a shaft footprint ratio in excess of 60%, thanks to the STM technology that allows the compact drive to be installed directly in the elevator shaft. The Schindler 5500 offers both mini-machine-room (MMR) and machine-room-less (MRL) options with the capability to install the controller on different levels.
Freedom of design
Drawing on the best of Italian design, the elevator comes with a choice of four decoration styles and a remarkably comprehensive choice of interior decoration features, which include sleek and classy full-height, glass touch sensitive panels, glass doors and wall panels, modern ambience ceilings with integrated LED lightings, back painted glass and digital printed glass walls with color gradients, digital printed stainless steel walls and illuminated handrails.
“The Schindler 5500 is designed to anticipate and meet the needs of architects, builders and developers alike, by bringing together the best of Schindler’s engineering as well as an innovative modular concept and refined interior design options,” said Gozali. “The Schindler 5500 was designed with no less ambition than setting the trend for the next generation of elevators.”
A new era of efficiency
The Schindler 5500’s use of advanced control systems makes it an ideal solution for heavy traffic environments. When powered by Schindler’s revolutionary PORT technology, an intelligent transit management system, the Schindler 5500 takes a building to a whole new level of efficiency, security and user experience through sophisticated touch-screen interface befitting luxury offices, hotels and residential buildings.
The PORT technology’s ability to cleverly increase traffic handling efficiency is demonstrated daily in international landmark buildings such as Ciputra World development in Indonesia, International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong, Heron Tower in London, Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, The Crescent in Dallas, Hyatt Regency in New Orleans and Barangaroo South in Sydney.
“Twenty years ago, we pioneered the industry’s original destination control system, the Schindler Miconic 10. PORT, the third generation of this technology, delivers exceptional levels of traffic and energy efficiency to buildings and provides tenants with state-of-the-art communication, security and personalized functionalities all accessible from a sleek-design interface” said Gozali. “We believe this distinctive innovation echoes the needs in Indonesia for advanced solutions in terms of security and personalization within modern buildings.”
